Gold & Herkimer "Diamond" Earrings

These earrings were sculpted using gold filled wire around a Herkimer Diamond quartz crystal. The stones measures approximately 13mm x 7mm (25mm=1 inch) and with the gold setting they hang about 35mm below the earwire.

Gold filled is NOT the same as plated. There is about 100 times more gold as there is in plated and it will not chip or flake off like the inferior plated will.

Herkimer diamonds are actually a quartz crystal mined primarily near Herkimer, New York. Unlike diamonds they don't require special cutting to achieve their beauty as they facets and points are as mother nature made them. This particular herkimer does have some natural inclusions in the form of a bubble or two and a few black specks. These inclusions do not detract from the beauty of this extremely sparkly stone however.

Herkimer diamonds are considered an alternate birthstone to the diamond for April. (The beauty without the high price or controversy).
